Fab! November 21, 2007 MC Knifton (North East of England) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Bought this to use alongside a full (of just music) 30GB 5G iPod and think the new model's a big upgrade. Love the new finish (mine's Silver), which doesn't scratch as easily as the 5G. Looks and feels very classy... Prior to the firmware update, it was a tad sluggish, but it runs beautifully now with V1.0.2 and features are much improved. Video out is now available and it works with all the old 5G accessories, ie Apple HiFi, chargers, cables, Docks etc. I like Coverflow but admit to rarely using it. Other search features are much improved. Sound quality is a little better than before, ie great for what it is. Works nicely in the Car too! Prices compare very well with rivals such as those from Creative Labs etc. 160GB for around 200? Bargain!
Great Product February 7, 2008 Big D. (Wigan, England) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
Well, I've now uploaded my albums and I've got to say, this product doesn't disappoint. I was very tempted with the iTouch but 32GB just wasn't enough, so I will probably hold out for the 3rd/4th Gen iTouch... I had my concerns about the volume limiter on the 160GB Classic but I've got no major issues or complaints - that said, the first thing I did was throw the standard Apple headphones in the bucket and upgraded to Senheisser PX100 cans ( 25) - I would also recommend the iGRADO ( 40). Anyway, it's very simple to increase the playback volume (I used 150%) in iTunes by right clicking on the tracks(s) and selecting Get Info. I also wondered how well CoverFlow would work with a large amount of songs (+10,000 songs) but this has not been a problem either. I understand that Apple released a software update shortly after the release in USA which sorted out the 'lag' problem. One thing I must point out though is that the latest iTunes software release automatically saves the CoverFlow view setting on your iPod to 'view by artist' and not 'view by album' (regardless of how your view is set up in iTunes itself). Therefore, when viewing ablums in CoverFlow on your iPod, you'll notice that a large number of the album covers are duplicated for compilations albums or songs 'featuring' another artist... Apple are due to fix this with their next iTunes software release (TBA) Oh, another top-tip is for when you are converting videos. FYI, I've used the various YouTube converters out there but I have to say the overall quality is quite poor, so I wouldn't waste my time personally - this is probably dependent on the upload quality to be fair but even on good quality clips, the resulting output on my iPod was at times quite blocky. When converting direct from DVD however, the video & audio are spectacular. Again, I used several different programs (both free and purchased) and my program of choice would be without doubt Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter... It's easy to use, and unlike many other Converters I sampled, there were no lip-sync issues. I found with some of the others that the larger files lost a second or two as ou got further through the movie, very annoying! Again, I'd recommend adjusting the ripping Properties to increase the volume level to around 150% - standard recording level is okay for music but at times it can be hard to hear speech etc on your movies FYI, I also bought the Evo4 iSkin from Amazon, it's a perfect fit and in my opinion it's the best protection on the market. Not only does it have a plastic cover for the screen but it also protects the iPod from being dropped (which many others don't). very important as this iPod is a HDD and doesn't use flash memory. Another tip, be wary of buying a red/blue iSkin as the pictures shown on the various websites show the iPod with a white scroll wheel. Remember that the 160GB ipod will have either a black or silver scroll wheel and these pictures are wrong. For this reason, I stuck with the ever-classic colour of black! Anyway, I hope this info has been helpful... Big D.
Absolutely terrific January 9, 2008 Jl Adcock (Ashtead UK) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
As a long-standing Sony fan when it came to MP3 players, I was a little reluctant to bite the bullet and switch to Apple. Quite why I don't know. The iPod Clasic is an absolute breeze to use, and iTunes is such an improvement on the awful SonicStage software from Sony that it's like another world. Downloading music, ripping and filing CDs is so easy with this piece of kit that I'm kicking myself for not buying one ages ago. Early days for sure - but I can see few downsides to switching allegiance, and clear advantages as so much more is available in iTunes and Apple formats. No problems so far with volume settings as mentioned by other reviews. Make no mistake - this is a quality piece of kit - and used with Sennheiser in-ear headphones the sound quality is superb. If you are unsure of making the switch to iPods - don't be!
A Smashing Gadget October 6, 2007 S. Morris (UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This will be my second iPod (which I bought for the 160GB hard disk). My first performed flawlessly and in the three weeks I've had it, so has this one. No problems connecting it to my PC, excellent sound quality (and with the hard disc space I can afford to rip tracks at high quality without worrying about space)and all the rest of it. I have every sympathy with those who feel let down by Apple products. But I speak as I find. This iPod is GREAT.
Loving It September 24, 2007 Mrs. Nicola Frazer 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is my first IPOD so i have nothing to compare it too. I have to say im loving it and ashamed i never bought one before. ITunes works perfectly and quickly. the only drawback ive found so far is that to have all my misceleanous tracks/one hit wonderes etc in one album so to speak i had to change the album name on all of them to the same album then mark them all as a compilation. Apparently Apple also changed the accesories that work with this IPOD so beware what your buying. As of yet there isnt much that works with the classic so i believe. By doing this all the tracks the album cover search method looks cool and tidy. ive got a few films / family movies on it aswell which is cool and with the cable i should be able to output them from my ipod to my telly which is also convenient. all in all top product very happy with it.
