5 out of 5 stars A thing of beauty...   September 8, 2007

Just picked this up today in Las Vegas and it is just stunning! I have never been a fan of Apple, but ever since the last iPod Nano they have really started to develop great products. This is EVEN better - the quality of the screen display is great and it is as simple to use as ever.

Well done Apple - I take my hat off to you!

5 out of 5 stars Please do not listen to people who say it is difficult to use!   January 13, 2008

Firstly - if you aree considering buying one of these - do not be put off by those people who say "it's difficult to use" - or "they dont work". iTunes is one of the most simple interfaces ever - uploading photos could not be simpler (same for videos) - as long as you have some knowledge of how to use a computer.

These are undoubtedly the best mp3 players on the market - and at an incredible price.

If you were put off by the people rating this * and saying that they freeze - i can assure you that they are guarunteed direct from apple for at least one year - and can be returned directly to the apple store = and secondly the amount of ipods that do freeze in this way is tiny, so you would be incredibly unlucky to recieve a non functional one.

I hope this review helped - and good luck with your new ipod nano!!

Finally got my new Nano and i'm very impressed with it. I can't get over how solid it feels for something so tiny - there's nothing cheap feeling about it, it's extremely well built. The pictures on the web really don't do it justice at all, it's so much better looking in real life and i'd go as far as to say it's the most stylish iPod ever. I'm not planning on using it to watch movies or anything on but i tried some of my video podcasts on it and they look fabulous, the video actually looks better (clearer & sharper) than on my 5.5g iPod.

The new interface is very funky and the coverflow is very smooth, no lags at all. When i plugged it in for the first time it updated its firmware which i assume has ironed out the bugs as i've had no problems with it so far.

The other thing that surprised me was i tried the supplied earphones and they actually sound really good (apple earphones don't usually sound great) but they're still a bit uncomfortable for me if using them for long periods so i use other phones.

I absolutely love it and I can't recommend it enough.

Edited to add: The volume is ridiculously low on Euro models of the new iPods and as of yet there are no software cracks to remove the limit but there are a couple of things you can do:

You can increase the volume in two ways:

1. In iTunes right-click a song (or select them all in one go) , select 'Get Info', click the 'Options' tab and move the 'Volume Adjustment' slider to maximum.

2. On your iPod go to 'Settings', 'Volume Limit' and wind it up to maximum.

For me this still isn't loud enough with certain headphones, with some headphones it's fine, others are not which i why i like to have the choice of how loud the volume will go because different ear/headphones have different levels. So no, i don't like to have it at deafening levels it's just that some types of headphones are quieter than others.

5 out of 5 stars Very good, Very Sleek   September 27, 2007

I had an old 5G iPod Video and never really used the whole 80gig storage. Then I saw the advertisments for the new Nano. It looked perfect, and it really is. On this baby, you can fit 2000 songs, 7,000 photos, 8 hours of video or a combination of each.

When you first see it the size strikes you like lightning! It is incredibly small to say the stuff you can fit on, and very thin too. You probably have a size in your mind, and yeah, so did I, but when you really see it, when you hold it, its smaller and sleeker than ever.

The songs are very clear, the sound is great, and iTunes includes gapless playback so that there's no long gaps between one song ending and the next starting. You get album artwork and can adjust the name, artist etc by opening iTunes and editing.

The photos are very clear and sharp. The screen is only 2" but the iPod and photos work really well together to give you great slideshows with music in the background - music of your choice.

And finally, the video - the biggest thing to hit the Nano! You can fit 8 hours of TV, movies, etc on this little beauty, and thats 30 episodes of a standard 20-minute long show, such as Pimp My Ride, available from the iTunes Store.

I give it 5 stars because its so good if you want an iPod, you want video, photos and of course songs, but you dont want something to big or bulky like the classic. It fits perfectly in your pocket and is now game - friendly.

A fantastic buy, I have had no problems.. so far! Really good.

Having never owned an iPod before and being quite content with previous mp3 players, I was unsure as to whether it would be worth the outlay.
I took the risk (8Gb nano) and so far,I have been delighted. The screen is very bright which makes the objects on screen clearer. The sound quality is very good and using iTunes was not a problem. I don't see how you could struggle with this iPod or the software. To put video onto the iPod you will needto convert the video files but this only takes a few moments(I haven't converted a large file yet so it remains to be seen) and is then stored in the videos folder on iTunes.
Definetly recommend this product to anybody and will probably stay with the iPod range
