Great little gadget February 6, 2008 gadgetman (UK) 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
The instructions are basically covered on the first page of the user manual, with the 4 items covered, bearing in mind that the booklet is only 2 inches square. It says the following 1) Connect iTrip to your Ipod 2) Press Play 3) Tune your FM radio to a clear frequency 4) Use iTrip's + and - buttons to tune iTrip to the same frequency 5) That' it And that all you need to do, it works straight out of the box, what's more no batteries required as it uses the IPod's own internal batteries, which I feel is better than my Belkin one which I replaced with this unit as it always seemed to be either running out of battery power or having to find a convenient cubby hole in the car, which is no problem with this unit as it attaches itself in the IPod's cradle connector on the bottom, great hay! The other thing I had to ignore was to install the iTrip docking connectors which come with the unit, this was because I am using the Belkin Ipod Touch black and chocolate case which again is a fantastic case giving that feel of quality and extra protection to my new cherished Ipod Touch. These adapters are only bits of plastic that make the connection look better to accommodate the different Ipod designs. The quality play back is good with very little breakdown in reception, however I had to try different frequency's to end up with a clear play back, which you would get from probably most Fm transmitters, and feel using both this one and the Belkin the quality are on par, however no batteries to buy, with the added benefit to be able locate it in the car easily. The unit comes with a USB cable in readiness for you to go out and purchase their Griffin Power Jolt car charger (nice try) I won't be lured into the sales racket a sprat to catch a mackerel I think? But if you are using it for long journeys it might be an idea as you can listen to you music while your Ipod is being charged, perhaps I might be persuaded, early days yet. Battery power consumption on my Ipod Touch is a little more than expected, I have played a couple of albums and the power meter is showing about 4-5th discharged well that's to bad can live with that? To sum this unit up very small, compact easy to use, no bells or whistles it does what it says on the tin. Give it ago and bring your music collection into your car.
Neat gagdet December 17, 2008 Richard Webb (Brighton, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great gadget I've had no problems with reception as other reviewers have mentioned. It's plug and play and works great in my car
sounds good, a bit plasticky April 19, 2008 S (UK) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just got one today. pros I think the sound quality is prity good for an fm transmitter with minimal hiss and its a big improvment on the cheap batery powered belkin one i had. I managed to pick up a decent signal all around the living room, unlike my old one that had to be touching the arial. cons it does feel a bit plasticky and cheap, so i dont no how long it will last. Also each time i turn it on it seems to default to a diffrent frequecny. Seems to eat the batterys a bit, but you can run it off usb.
neat package, but still has flaws February 10, 2008 Mark Molnar (hale, cheshire, uk) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
i've read the other review and in the main it hits the mark. however, having used it on a couple of long journeys (3-4 hours), using a car charger into the itrip will not charge the ipod while you are playing it, it only works when the unit is off. the pick up of the radio frequency is pretty decent in the main, but on long journeys you'll have to switch frequency, so it's worth having a couple of frequencies close together unless you're prepared to stop. i agree with the previous reviewer that having the the power jolt charger as an optional extra is a sales ploy by grifiin that customers can do without these days. other than that it's a neat unit that fits well with the ipod. given this seems to be one of the most popular units, i can't believe someone isn't able to make a unit without these flaws
Not as good as first edition iTrip June 9, 2008 C. N. Lewis 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I broke the connector on my first edition iTrip and replaced it with this second edition product but it is not as good. In particular it does not now save my favoured 87.9 frequency but picks one at random. I thought that I was just using it incorrectly but the Griffin website states the following: "If your iTrip was purchased in Europe, this is normal. In order to be in compliance with a European regulation designed to prevent pirate radio transmissions, iTrips sold outside of North America will change to a random station after each use." I purchased the first edition ITrip in Europe too but it did not have this severe limitation.
