5 out of 5 stars Belkin Tunebase   January 20, 2007

I bought this FM transmitter for my 80GB ipod for use in my car. I have found it very easy to use and program in. The transmitter fits into the cigarette lighter socket and is adjustable with the strong flexible connection, it looks smart and charges the ipod. I have a 35 mile journey each way to work and have used it every day and found it to be brilliant, it keeps my ipod fully charged every day.
My only minor gripe is that the connection to the cigarette socket is slightly difficult to remove once fitted, because there is a rubber connection around the plug to create a firm connection. Because of this I do not remove the unit unless I have to as, if I did I think that the rubber would eventually come away, but obviously leaving the unit in the car can advertise to the low life that could break into your car.

5 out of 5 stars Ignore Other Reviews - Cracking Item!! :-)   January 30, 2007

I'm not normally one to write product reviews but after buying this item and using it I felt obliged to!
I cannot praise this unit highly enough. I did a bit of homework researching the different options available to allow me to play my iPod in my car and this was one that greatly appealed to me.
However there was a distinct lack of UK reviews available on the internet - another reason for me writing this.
I was concerned with the review that iLounge (www.ilounge.com) gave this product; it hardly filled me with confidence of its technical ability but I decided to give it a go anyway, with the peace of mind provided by Amazon's 14 day returns policy.
Since it arriving I have been nothing but impressed with it! It tuned into an FM station easily using the iPod's colour display as its own and the first frequency I tried (99.8FM) provided crystal clear sound.
At present I have not had to change frequency once, so cannot comment on the usefulness of the Memory Functions, having only filled 1 of the four available slot, but this I feel only serves as further evidence of the TuneBase's broadcasting strength.
I am not going to go through and analyse each feature in depth, this would just be repeating the Product Details page - the main reason I have posted this review is to inform other UK iPod users that this product will do the job you want it to do and do it well!
I cannot understand how iLounge got such poor results with this, perhaps this is due to it being tested in America, I personally don't know.
All I can say is buy the thing and give it a try and I can bet you won't be disappointed - I know I wasn't.
And please, if you do, then leave a review to let other prospective buyers know your experience - good or bad.
Enjoy your TuneBase!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, style, sound and quality!   February 3, 2007

the perfect i-pod in car accesory!

as well as charging the ipod, using the ipods excellent screen as the interface, having 4 different channels for easy radio tuning. this little pice of kit boast excellent sound looks and build quality.

you only have to spend 5 minuits in this think to realise your CD player need never be used again! i found that there is a slight hissing. parked outside my house on my sloped driveway.

the tune base does an excellent job of holding onto your precious pod, its cleverly and well thought out grips hold onto almost every ipod with ease. i took mine on some fairly bouncy back roads and my confidence in this machine is high!

as for design, its sturdy and bendy grip means you can move the whole contraption anywhere you want, so if its in the way of some dials or gear stick at first it can easily be moved. it looks excellent with a black colour ipod vid in it. and a clear green light on the power adapter shows you everything is on.

the 'plug' fits nicely into all power outlets but you must ensure you have a steady hand when removing it as pulling out at the slighted angles makes the job alot harder. it wont come out as easy as the cigarret lighter this unit may replace.

hidden treats, well when the car power goes off, the unit will pause the ipod, so that you dont miss any of your songs, i found this to be a nice little addition not found on other FM transmitters. good use of the ipod screen as the interface. fully charge ipod at the end of jurneys. and if you have any movies on your ipod video, these are excellent entertainment for your passenges (if you dont mind a small vid image).

5 out of 5 stars good product, rubbish car   September 6, 2007

Good product (have tried other transmitters and this is the best), sturdy construction, easy to set up, works well and holds the ipod very securely and in the perfect position. Just check that your cigarette lighter socket is secure...my car is a renault and therefore the interior is as robust and sturdy as a faberge egg...the product fits in the socket very securely but the socket wobbles around in the dashboard. Serves me right for buying a quality transmitter but a french car...

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised!   September 4, 2007

It's the first FM transmitter I've bought specifically for the car - I only bought it so my wife could listen to her iPod in the car without paying out for an expensive wired solution for the stereo - we have no cassette player either.

I wasn't expecting much as I've heard a Griffin iTrip a couple of years ago and was very unimpressed - the sound was muffled and lacking definition.

The sounds quality of this unit appears to be superb. I think the receiver in the car is locking on well to the unit and the ability to boost the output specifically for the Nano really makes a difference. It also displays the frequency well on the iPod - much better than other units with nasty little displays IMHO.

I also believe the sound quality with a good fm lock to render much better dynamics than a typical FM station such as Radio 1. Largely because the transmitter doesn't try to compress the output from the iPod so the reproduction is not affected. The only issue is a little hiss at quiet points in the music but this isn't noticeable when driving because of tyre noise anyway.

I'd also recommend finding an EQ setting on your iPod that boosts the bass and treble a little - I found the flat setting doesn't sparkle.
