i would really give them 3 and 3/4 stars May 13, 2008 RezisluhA (London, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
they are the coolest looking earphones i've ever seen or owned. however, it's not about looks, is it? the sound isn't terrible but they aren't balanced either. i think the treble is too emphasized. they would be perfect to listening to audiobooks while flying overseas. musically i would choose Maximo V-mode or V-moda's (if you like your bass good and heavy). plus 84 pounds is a bet hefty compared to maximo's price.
Poor build quality and indifferent mic performance January 5, 2009 Sukumar Natarajan I bought these from Amazon's US site a few months ago to replace my really excellent Etymotic ER6i which fell foul of my 1st gen iPhone's recessed headphone jack. My initial impressions were positive especially as the sound from these, though perhaps not quite as balanced as the Etymotic's, had much more presence. However, within a couple of months of use the earbuds started to come stuck in my ear. This was extremely uncomfortable as the *only* way to get them out was to use some tweezers which I had to go purchase with the bud still stuck in my ear. My initial reaction to this was to replace the buds with an alternate pair and I found one in the supplied extras that fit more or less to the same comfort. Lo and behold within a few weeks of use the same problem occurred. I am an extremely careful user and my earphones have usually lasted 2-3 years before requiring replacement. I would however rate these as sub-par especially given my excellent experience with the Etymotic ones. I should also mention that the mic performance (when the buds were not getting stuck in my ear) was somewhat indifferent and I had to unplug the headset on a number of occasions as the person I was speaking to could not hear me properly. I have asked UE for a replacement which unfortunately means my shipping them off to California at my own expense. If the Etymotic HF2s weren't so dear I'd buy them at the drop of a hat.
