5 out of 5 stars Crystal clear sound   October 21, 2008

I purchased these headphones for use with my ipod nano when my original headphones gave out. I purposly chose a noise isolating style of ear bud as I mostly listen to my ipod whilst commuting.

I can honestly say that the sound clarity is excellent and a real step up from the original ipod ones.

It does pay to try each of the earbud covers to find out which gives the best fit as unlike ordinary earbuds these ones need to sit snuggly into the ear. And in order to get the best sound quality you need a snug fit.

Once my iPod Video earphones developed a rattle I thought it was time to invest in a decent pair of earphones and after a bit of deliberation went for the CX400's.
Plus points: love the noise reduction (it really does work and I find I often have to turn the volume right down in all but the noisiest places); the "non tangle" wire is superb and even when the 'phones have been stuffed into a pocket, a quick shake and they are ready to go; I like the choice of 3 ear bud sizes to ensure a good fit and the extension is a great idea as is the coat clip.
Not so good points: initially I thought the sound was not as bass-ey as my iPod 'phones and spent a little adjusting with the EQ, however now I have gotten used to the sound I appreciate a greater clarity with the CX400's than with the iPod 'phones from movies to music; the short lead I find is just too short (unless you carry your iPod in a chest pocket) but with the extension lead on there is plenty of length for any pocket.
All in all a great buy and recommended to anyone seeking to enhance iPod listening pleasure.

4 out of 5 stars Loud, but not at all crashy   September 24, 2008

The key thing about these headphones is bass and midrange. Whether it is a dance track or a rock or jazz number, they perform perfectly. It also plays Phillip Glass classical really well, so a good all rounder in terms of music.

Connected to my iPhone, it plays video audio really well, if a little let down with vocal reproduction but then I guess that is affected by video quality etc.

These are my second pair of CX400's. Got the first pair for my MP3 player, and these for my white PSP.

Have to say that the sound is great, and comes without any problems. The main issues with these headphones is in the construction, as the cables fray without proper TLC!

4 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price   December 11, 2008

Yes there are better earphones, but you get what you pay for. this earphone is much improvement on cx-300. You can improve the sound still further by choosing the right earbud for your ear so that you isolate the outside noise, do not take my word for it, try it, you will notice the difference.

the cx500 is a much better sounding earphone at a price so take your pick
