5 out of 5 stars Excellent buds   December 20, 2007

These replaced my Sony EX71s so I'll more or less directly compare them.

Pros:

*Build quality. Just top notch. Nothing feels cheap, I only have them for a day now and I'm sure they'll look exactly the same in years from now. I'm really impressed. Some say cable is thick and heavy. Its definitely thick, I'd say almost two times thicker than the EX71s'. Heavy ? I wouldn't say so, feels fine. Also don't expect the cable to tangle around, ever.
*Cable length is exactly right. I was really tired of EX71s'. No behind the neck silliness (some people like it, I hated it), these offer a traditional Y setup. To give you an idea, length is practically the same as the iPod crappy earbuds have.
*Sound quality. Superb. Just what you'd expect from Ultimate Ears. Obviously these 'phones like bassy environments, I mostly listen to electronic genres, everything from Ambient and Chill to Psytrance and Industrial and I'm already in love with these. Unlike with Sonys bass is really clean, never muddy, never covering other frequencies. And I'm sure as they'll "burn in" they'll do even better.
*Comfort/Fitting. Unless you have strange ears you'll be pleased. For me what worked best was using the out-of-the-box medium buds. Just perfect, they just seal perfectly. I haven't used them for hours and hours yet so don't really know if they'll be tiring after many hours of continuous usage.
*Sound isolation. Very good, far far better than Sonys'. But I guess thats depending on how good they fit in your ear.

Cons.

*Jack. I tried hard thinking of something negative to say. So there you go, the only thing I didn't like was the 3.5mm jack. Yes, it has "Quality" written all over it, it's just a bit big compared to your standard average jack. To give you a rough idea, its thicker than my ipod nano.

All in all so far I'm extremely impressed and pleased. I was expecting these to smoke my Sonys out of the water, thats why I bought em, and thus far they didn't disappoint me.

Last but not least, if you care about packaging (I personally don't) its just excellent. Box is very solid, feels professional and you even get a colored glossy user guide/manual and not yet another tiny cheap piece of paper.

I bought these Headphones roughly 3 weeks ago and i have had nothing But awesome sounds pounding my eardrums.
I think the reviewer below got unlucky, and if so, why didnt they return them for a replacement like anyone would who wasnt the cause of the problem?

I bought these Earbuds to replace my dying Skullcandy buds.
I use a creative vision m 60gb and the two go together SO, So well.
They have clear mids, high treble and nice punchy bass which can actually make you head pulse if you get it set right.

I recommend these headphones wholeheartedly.
They are second to none for the price you pay for them!
i mean look at the rest of their range, earbuds up to 200+?
I think they know what they're doing!

5 out of 5 stars Best in ear phones i have used   July 31, 2008

These in ear phones are by far the best i have used to date. The sound quality was spot on. OK the earbuds suplied weren't perfect for my ears, but neither were the ones that came with my sennheiser CX300 or CX500. Having read one of the other reviews about using buds from Sony EX71, i have bought some and these fit the Metro Fi 2 fine and provide a very good fit for my ears. The sound is excellent, and with the sony buds fitted the comfort is fine.

Ultimate Ears Metro.fi 2 - In Ear Headphones - Black

I originally had the sony ericsson hpm 70 earphone headset and then i bought the sony mdr-ex71's and recently i decided to try and get some good quality earphones that could actually handle music at a higher bit rate and improves the sound quality overall and after quite a bit of research i stumbled upon these.

These headphones are made by the same people who make the in ear monitors that many artists use and they made these headphones for those who dont want a bulky set which show you have some expensive headphones. They definately do look more low profile than the distinct look of a pair of shure e2c's but thats not all these headphones are about.

These headphones produce amazing sound with whatever music you have, i have tested these on mainly rock but i tried them on some enter shikari and some game soundtracks and they really do add some depth to the music and you tend to notice subtle things in the music which I personally didnt hear before. These are a vast improvement on the sony mdr-ex71s and they produce a well balanced sound which isnt bass heavy like the sony mdr ex71s.

The only bad points i can really pick out is that it has a Y-cord rather than a over the head kind of earphones. They also have a straight plug instead of a right angled plug so i bought a right angled plug adaptor as i hear that it will be less likely to break. Also its a bit wierd having the left and right symbol on the inside of the earphone instead of on the out side. Most of these bad points are down to persanal preference and these things may not bother you as much.

Overall i think these are a great pair of headphones which are a must have if you want a quality pair of earphones although i do suggest you get some music that's above 160kb/ps to really hear the difference but this is with any high quality earphones. Also a right angled adaptor may help.

5 out of 5 stars The best buds I have!   April 2, 2008

I only own a few IEM's and I have to say that these are my favourite and most impressive. That's not to say that it's faultless. The cable is very stiff and of course there are the usual issues with fitting them in your ears and getting them to stay in position.

A trick I tried is to use the smallest ear buds and gently but firmly screw them into your ears.

The sound is deep, hard and very in ya face and I love them for it. The bass is the cleanest and deepest I've heard at this price. The midrange is very good, and sounds staging is clear and accurate.

For the price, I would recommend nothing else!

I should give them four stars for the cable issue, but the sound makes up for that.
