4 out of 5 stars Excellent   March 30, 2008

I bought this to replace a Creative Zen Nano 1GB MP3 Player (which has developed an annoying habit of switching itself off for no reason). The sound quality is not quite as good as the Creative (which has a built in graphic equalizer function for listening to different styles) but having said that it is excellent for such a tiny compact, convenient device. The clip is extremely useful to me as I listen to music while working out in the gym and it clips easily onto shirt/shorts.
The reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the headphones supplied by Apple are awful - they blast out at high volume but it's like listening through wet cotton wool. I use a pair of Sennheiser CX300 Ear Canal phones which are immensely superior to the Apple ones. They take a bit of fiddling with to get the right size and then to form a seal around the ear canal but once they're in they sound great with the ipod shuffle.

4 out of 5 stars Great Gadget   July 2, 2008

This is my first Pod. Its a fantastic little gadget. I use it walking to and from work and at lunchtime. Its extremely light and clips onto a shirt, tie, belt or jacket. Its easy to use and you get a good 12 hours from a very quick charge up [2-3 hours]. Quality is good and better than some MP3's i've tried and I like the headphones. They are comfortable and good enough quality. Maybe a bit light on the bass.

The only criticism is the fact that you can't select the music you want to listen to and after a while its something I miss. You can listen to whats installed in order or shuffled up. My advice is to fill it up with music at the start.

I only gave it 4 stars because of its limitations. I now realise I should have got a Nano. This is however perfect for the gym or jogging.

2 out of 5 stars worst ipod   September 2, 2008

ipod shuffle is still an ipod but it lacks feature that are most mp3 players.
1. There is no display screen
2. There is no way to check the battery life

However the quality of the music is better that most mp3 players making it useful.

If you can extend your money buy a nano, classic or even a touch.

2 out of 5 stars Over-rated Device   August 6, 2008

I borrowed one of these iPod Shuffles from my brother and I found it to be over-rated and rather annoying to use properly.
First of all, when I came to load some music on it, I found that the only way to do it was through iTunes - i.e. I couldn't find a way to drag and drop music files into a containing folder as no icon appeared when the device was plugged in. Other run of the mill Mp3 players allow you to do this with no problem and I find this a far more convenient method than having to select playlists from the iTunes menu and go through individual mp3's with a fine tooth comb.
Also, although the Shuffle is a very compact device, I find that there is nothing it can do that any other ordinary MP3 player can't and this does not go towards justifying it's price tag (which is double the price of many MP3 players with the same memory capacity).
From this brief analysis, I believe that this product is a "must have device" for people who aren't concerned with better value for money music players.
