5 out of 5 stars Horses For Courses   May 17, 2005

I have been using these headphones for a while now and I love them. I guess the five stars should have been a formality but there is a note of caution.

It all depends what you want and what you expect. I specifically wanted a backband because I find in-ear phones irritating and a normal headband gets in the way and looks too obvious. If neither of these is an issue for you then you may disagree with my review.

I have been happy with Sennheiser sound quality in the past and these phones keep up the standard ... but ... they leak sound like a sieve. Not important for me but perhaps critical to others. Likewise they don't do a great deal to block noise out.

I have given a five star review because, for me, these are comfortable, good value and excellent sounding headphones that do exactly what they are designed to do. However, what they are designed to do may not be what you want them to do so please check them out first.

5 out of 5 stars Useful and versatile, especially for the price   August 16, 2006

These headphones are very confortable, and are much better ergonomically than similar ones from other manufacturers and does not hurt the outer ear during prolonged use. The design lets the sound escape the ears, therefore playback is sufficiently loud without causing strain to the eardrums. However, you sometimes have to be aware that the escaping sound could be quite loud and cause irritation to others, but it normally isn't if media is played at reasonable levels. Of course if you want people to know what you are listening to, then these are good too. Also, unlike other headphones, I have owned a pair for 3 years, and in that time the hardware has remained reliable and stable, with sound quality not deteriorating at all, even if half the time the headphones are made to work hard.

5 out of 5 stars A bargain   August 20, 2006

These headphones are absolutely ideal for anyone who likes listening to their iPod (or whatever else) at the gym - they stay on on the treadmill and are perfectly comfortable as well. The sound quality is very good for the price and the volume goes a lot higher than the standard 'bud' earphones that come with the iPod. Even the cable is just the right length!

I bought a pair of these for my creative mp3.The sound quality compared to the ear buds which came with the mp3 is vastly superior. You can hear every note crystally clear. My husband used them with his Sandisk mp3 with the same results. I think for the price they are amazing.
I go jogging and the ear clip keeps them on my ears well enough but they are not adjustable and so they fit my husband's bigger head/neck much better than mine. They are, however, extremely comfortable to wear and you can forget that you have them on. The neckband style is more comfortable to wear when sitting up but when I lie down they can move forward pushing the ear phones away from my ears-so if you want a pair for sleeping, another style may be better.
They are open backed so you can hear what I'm playing, but I like to be in touch with my surroundings so they suit me fine.

5 out of 5 stars Top class!   September 28, 2007

I was apprehensive about buying these after reading some consumer reviews, stating that they were very fragile and that they leaked sound so badly that others could hear what song you're playing.

The neckband is made from tough springy plastic and is very sturdy. The earphone jack does feel quite flimsy, but provided you leave some slack when you wrap round your mp3 player this wont be a problem.

The sound leaking is noticeable; others can hear some noise in a quiet environment. However they aren't worse than any other headphones of this style and if that's going to be a problem you should really be looking at either in-ear headphones or some of the massive ear-enclosing ones that audiophiles wear.

Its main weakness is in the fact that the unit is not collapsible, the headbands/earphones do not fold into a more compact form. So they take up lots of space in a bag, and don't sit flat on a desk. Which means if you bag takes a hit from being thrown nonchalantly at a sofa, or you're unlucky enough to sit on them, they might not survive the encounter. As they don't come with a case, wearing them really is the only alternative.

All that said, these are the most comfortable earphone, of any kind, I have ever owned. The sound quality, being Sennheisers, is second to none in it's class. Given how cheaply Amazon is selling them as well, these really are the best wired neckband headphones on the market.
