Superb! July 3, 2007 David Walsh (London, UK) 96 out of 98 found this review helpful
I'd been looking around for a really good, sleek and compact/portable Ipod speaker-dock with an FM tuner for my bedroom, and hadn't liked most of the 'fat' and/or ugly-ish barrel-shaped offerings on the market. I'd also been disappointed to read that the LED displays of many units tended to be irritatingly bright in bedrooms at night. After trawling through a variety of online reviews (iLounge is particularly good), I narrowed my search down to the Logitech Audiostation and the IM600; in the end I opted for the Altec on the grounds that (i) it appeared to be more portable (both in terms of size and the 5-7 hour rechargeable battery) and (ii) had received a whole host of excellent reviews (all of which particularly applauded the strength of the FM tuner). The product arrived within 36 hours of placing the order and I have to say that first impressions are that this really is an excellent product. It looks superb (even better than in the pictures), the sound quality is well balanced and very very good for such small speakers (as you'd expect from Altec, although if you need LOTS of bass this mightn't be for you - mind you, I upped the Bass on my Ipod Nano 'Settings' Equaliser and ended up getting plenty of glorious bass on the IM600), connectivity is excellent, the multiple plug system (which allows you to connect to sockets around the world) is very clever, there is no distortion even at high volume levels (which are more than enough to fill a decent-sized room), and the FM reception is excellent (I live in London). Only downside is that it doesn't come with a carry-case, but a quick search on the high street showed that the IM600 fits absolutely perfectly into the Case Logic Rip & Burn Series 72-CD wallet holder (c. 14 from Case Logic or HMV. It might also fit into other 72-CD variants? Definitely worth the money). To sum up, I'm incredibly impressed, and highly recommend it. In fact, I think I'll buy another one for the kitchen...
Highly recommended! September 2, 2007 Mrs. J. Hammond (UK) 28 out of 28 found this review helpful
I just bought this docking station a couple of weeks ago to take away on holiday. I am really impressed with the sound quality of the radio and mp3 tracks, it is excellent for such a small machine. I am now using it in the kitchen as a radio and have my ipod nano docked to listen to tracks when I feel like it. The fact that you can disconnect it and it retains charge is great so that it can be used outside and be taken anywhere. Additionally, the ipod itself is charged when it is docked so that if you want to take the ipod out and use it it will already be charged. Highly recommended!
Bose beaters!! February 23, 2008 Tim1341 (UK) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Fantastic little speakers! Like many I spent some time researching this purchase, and listened to quite a few of the other makers' offerings. Given that portability was one of main requirements, my choice was essentially limited to this or the Bose ( 279). Don't get me wrong, the Bose does sound good, but I'd have to have won the lottery before forking out nearly 3 times as much! The iM600 looks beautiful, does indeed slip into the Case Logic R&B 72 CD holder referred to elsewhere ( 11.99 from PC World - Bose rip you another 50 for their case!). Sound quality is excellent, with incredibly tight, if not deafening, bass and remarkably well detailed treble. Volume, without distortion, is more than sufficient to fill a medium room and kill conversation. The radio works perfectly, and the battery appears to hold its charge for at least the 7 hours claimed. I love these beauties!! (They are still available from the Apple store for 99 including delivery - mine arrived within 48 hours).
Great device; cheaper at the Apple Store though! October 18, 2007 Mr. Matthew Larkin 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Great device, but (unusually) the apple store was cheaper - 99.99 with free (next day) delivery! Matt

Bought this mainly to take on holiday - for which it's ideal, as it comes with numerous plug fittings that slot into the same adapter. Thought I wouldn't use it much at home, but now I find myself taking it from room to room. Design is very good - sleek, lightweight and compact - and the sound is probably better than I expected for normal home listening (it sounds better with SFX switched on). I don't really use the radio, but nice to know it's there if you need it. Battery life seems pretty good, although most of the time I have it plugged in so it can charge my iPod at the same time. Probably one of the best gadgets I've bought recently.
