5 out of 5 stars Excellent   September 5, 2006

I have been promising myself one of these for a long time, but felt that as I don't travel a lot I couldn't justify it. It has turned out to be a real winner at work where I have the world's most tedious job. I hated the earphones so I bought some Sennheiser CX300s also from Amazon. In-ear head phones are so much better. My only regret is that I didn't buy the 60gb one. Make sure you get a case. The Agent 18 one was my choice.

I've had my Ipod about a week now and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. I still can't believe how much it holds. I've got over 1000 songs and about 400 photos and there's still over 20gb left. It took me a while to decide which MP3 player to go for and I'm so glad I went for the 30gb Ipod. The clickwheel is a work of genius though I can see the battery depleting if I have to go from A-Ha to ZZ Top. If I do have any complaints it's about the short battery life. Also it does scratch easily but I knew that anyway from reading the other reviews. The silver back is gorgeous. At least it was when I took it out of the box. Now it's covered in my fingerprints. I've still got the plastic protection on the front just to be sure. I know some people have complained about the sound quality but I think it's great. I'm more than happy using the earphones provided. All in all I'm delighted. I'm having a fantastic time with it and being able to see the album art is a very nice touch. Luckily I've found a cool site with thousands of cd covers. I haven't even begun with the video, podcasts, audiobooks etc etc. I'm very impressed with how my photos look though. The screen is great. Basically forget the rest and go for the best. The Ipod. You won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars iTunes Is The Key   January 30, 2006

After years of dedication to Windows Media Player and Creative MP3 players, I finally did the deed and switched over to iTunes and a 30GB iPod Video. Lots of reviewers have talked about the iPod itself, so I thought I'd concentrate more on iTunes.

There are lots of MP3 players on the market, but no company except Apple has managed to perfectly unite the software (e.g. iTunes) with the hardware (e.g. iPod). Even when another company manages to deliver a piece of hardware almost as good as the iPod (e.g. Zen Vision M), they still haven't got the software right. Microsoft can't get the software right, Creative can't get the software right, and Sony certainly can't get the software right! So I gave up, and went with the only company that actually KNOWS what they're doing; Apple.

For a long time now I've been clinging onto Windows Media Player 10, but there are so many things it can't do. You can't subscribe to Podcasts with it. You can't print out a list of your Library. You can't buy music that easily. And the Sync feature really doesn't work that well. iTunes, on the other hand, does all of these things and more.

So my advice to anyone considering buying an iPod is to download iTunes today (it's FREE). Start organising your music collection with it, start making Playlists with it, subscribe to some FREE Podcasts with it, and master it. Once you've done all of that, the iPod part is easy. Simply connect your iPod and everything in iTunes is automatically Synced (transferred) to it. You literally don't have to touch a button. Just make the connection, and it does EVERYTHING itself. Fantastic.

5 out of 5 stars A review after owning an iPod for 5months   July 20, 2006

It's awesome, just awesome - i've used my iPod for hours every day for 5 months. If you're complaining you just don't know how to use it efficiently.

Battery - with a screen that big the backlight is obviously going to use up a lot of your power. Turn the backlight off and the battery will last for ages. Charge it FULLY the first time you plug it in to charge (you must do this, or it can mess up the battery). Using playlists (no click wheel that way) i've got the battery to last 16 hours (that's hours over what apple say it can last), with the click wheel (without backlight) i've got it to last about 10-11 hours, and with the backlight about 7. Also - if the battery seems bad the first few uses - after a few charges it will get better.

Scratches - Get a decent case, or just live with it. Remember what the iPod was made for - listening to awesome music, not looking at it like it's a piece of art (if you use it for video playback then the scratches can be annoying, but with only 2 hours video playback who uses it for video anyway?)

Music Playback - Perfect. No Problems. And the lyrics are easy to read on such a big screen.

Video Playback - Zen Vision M looks better. If you want to watch lots of video just get one of them. But Video is just a bonus on the iPod.

Size - Fits in you pocket perfectly, without being annoying - it's the smallest 30gb player around and this makes it so much better.

Breakage? - It doesn't break easily, unless you drop it repeatedly.

No Wall Charger - I have to plug my iPod into my PC to update playlists and add new music almost every day anyway. If i go on holiday i'll go buy a wall charger for 10 down town - but i just don't need one - why supply everyone with something only a few people will use?

Earphones - They sound awesome - but if you use them lots they will break - it's the same with ANY earphones.

Looks - It looks just amazing. People will be jealous.

Usability - Easy - anyone can understand how to use it in minutes.

Software - iTunes works really well, for ripping CDs, adding albumart, listening to music on your PC, downloading paid-for music (but why not buy real albums - they can be ripped to propper MP3s!), adding lyrics, and updating the iPod is really easy.

Conclusion - i've had a lot of MP3 players - this is the best in every way possible.

The iPod is simply superb, it does everything. The sound quality of music is excellent and it can hold loads of music. Someone mentioned you only get about 28Gb of memory not 30. This is because Apple has had to install the software on the iPod. Someone else said you could only get videos from iTunes. This is not true either. You can download videos from YouTube using a free program called iTube. Just type iTube into google. This iPod is strongly recommended.
