Get it Quickly! August 10, 2004 60 out of 64 found this review helpful
The iPod really comes of age....now the battery will last you a full 12.5-14 hrs of continuous playtime (for all old owners this is an unarguable advantage!) with the battery meter giving accurate readings as opposed to the previous random values. I don`t know how they did this as effectively doubling the battery life is amazing and even more so when you have had to put up with the pitiful powerlife of the 3rd gen. The other feature improved (?) the clickwheel is a mixed blessing but it is certainly more convenient to use than the old buttons. You still also have the touch scrolling function for selecting tracks/menu features etc. I also think the new charge from USB 2.0 is a really handy function and does away with the need to buy a dock (not included)as you can sync and charge from one cable (which is included) and also does away with the charger. The other minor menu changes are too insig to bother or get excited about but having owned a gen3 and gen4 I can now at least listen to my iPod for a decent time before it needs recharging....and less charge cycles means longer battery life!! P.S. do not be fazed by lack of accessories. The remote is worthless and the Apple case likewise (they have done customers a favour by doing away with these and reducing the price) If you really want a dock for charging/syncing/storage then buy one from Apple.
IPOD October 17, 2004 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
obviously i have brought an ipod. I spent a lot of time checking the creative, iriver and reo but i felt the ipod was the best. the battery length isn't great: it lasts about 7 hours for me. I read a lot of the reviews and they say that the headphones are useless but I still use them: they are the most cumfortable ones I have and they sound great. I seen the new creative player and it is twice as thick and longer and looks quite bad.The ipods games are rubbish and waste the battery so don't use them. I recommend buying a firewire port because it speeds up the tranfering time: they cost about 30 from PC world.I recommend an ipod but make sure you have WIndows XP or 2000.
Have no doubts, Invest in the IPOD, It is the best bar none May 1, 2005 66 out of 73 found this review helpful
I'll keep it brief, I started to get the mp3 bug and bought a Creative 512mb player, this was ok but I was intrigued by all the hype about the IPOD, in addition to this I wanted to store more music. I read every online review and the IPOD's seemed to fair better than its main competitors, however it did have a few areas which concerned me, some of these concerns are raised in the reviews below this. In short I took the plunge and bought the 20Gb Ipod. When it arrived I was amazed at the quality, it felt nice to hold, unlike some of its competitors. Before long I had my entire CD collection on it (250cds) with plenty of room to spare (8Gb). The IPOD's software is simple to use even for mp3 amateurs like me. I am so glad I bought this over anything else. I have also invested in the following bits of kit to further my pleasure, this is as a result of the fact that I don't just want to listen to music through headphones. 1. Bose sounddock, this plays your 20,30,40Gb IPOD and min IPOD using an excellent Bose speaker system. True professional sound from a device the size of a small shoe box, so loud but so clear, 250 from apple. It is also the best speaker set up available. This is a must have!!!! 2. iTrip, this clips into the top of your IPOD and allows you to play your IPOD through any radio, in the car, kitchen, on holiday, wherever, it's a great invention. Just tune your radio to 87.9 fm and it will play your entire cd collection. Find this on ebay for less than 20. 3. Sony Fontopia headphones, get them in white and buy them from amazon uk. For the price nothing comes close, nothing at all! Read the reviews. I hope you have found this review helpful, IPOD is the best I assure you. Don't buy cheaper as I guarantee this little voice in your head will nag you for the lovely white IPOD!!!
Best MP3 Player to date August 21, 2004 24 out of 26 found this review helpful
I bought my new 4th Generation iPod 20gb on the day it came out. I thought it was great value because all other mp3 players to the same spec have tried to match Apples old price 299. Now Apple have pulled away with this better and cheaper model and it is now the best thing in the mp3 sector. The only bad thing is that you dont get all the accessories, but the great thing is all the accessories are like 5 on eBay and so you save big time. I cant wait for all the cases to be revamped for the ne iPod but all old accessories work for it. It is user friendly and the battery is 10x better. Mine took a week to arrive but I hear there is a bit of a delay on delivery because of the high demand. The best thing is the USB 2.0 Cable, finally Apple wisened up and realised most of its customers use Windows and dont have firewire ports. THE IPOD IS GREAT FOR A FIRST TIME MP3 PLAYER BUYER!
great - buy it! February 17, 2005 iPod lover (london, england) 19 out of 21 found this review helpful
if you are reading this, wondering whether to purchase one of these dream-machines the answer is a resounding YES. i received my iPod two days ago and already it is containing my whole music collection, with 10GB left!!you open the wonderfully designed apple box whice leaves a black case, flips open and there is everything you need. 1st inpressions counts and i was really impressed. transferring songs is simple; install iTunes and then just "update iPod" this is quick with usb2 or firewire. the ease of use is amazing. the clickwheel is a wonderful touch and makes scrolling through your songs effortless. 1 tip - buy an iSkin - these cover your iPods from scratches and dust and contain a screen protector. in short - buy it, well worth the price tag
