5 out of 5 stars Pure Highway - Pure Magic   February 5, 2008

Fantastic piece of kit, really well designed, superb full sound. Planet Rock and the Arrow fill the car, even mono stations like Talksport are well presented. I've been a fan of DAB for ages and to get it in the car where I spend a lot of time is a great leap forward. I've yet to experience any drop off of signal when travelling. Brilliant!!!

5 out of 5 stars Decent DAB in the car   August 3, 2008

I got this for my birthday in April, and its first outing was my journey home from the Lake District to London. I had the aerial bluetacked to the dashboard as I didn't know where I wanted it and the reception was great all the way home apart fom a short section near Birmingham. I didn't bother with the windscreen holder, I bought a cheap USB lead to power it and use velcro to stick it on the dashboard where I can easily reach it to change channels. The sound is great, I'd really recommend it.

Wow! This really is a great little gadget. I am already a DAB fan, but have been put off using DAB in the car until now because of the need to replace the factory fitted stereo with some non standard item. Pure have come up with this great solution. The sound quality is impressive, the reception quality is equally impressive, & the unit itself seems well made & is very easy to operate. All in all it's excellent value for money & a great addition to any in car entertainment system.
Pure have included some really useful features such as REVU & live pause which allow you to listen to anything that you want to hear again or to pause what you're listening to if, for example, the phone rings or whatever, then you can pick up where you left off. Go on! Treat yourself to one!

Ordered from Amazon said it would be 2-4 weeks arrived n less than a week.
2 minutes to install and really is as simple as the instructions 5 easy steps.
Dependant on the area is the number of stations you receive 80 in the Midlands, 57 in Yorkshire.
Talksport is now worth listening too!
60 well spent

Excellent bit of kit, simple to install and set up. From box to fully installed and working should take no more than five minutes.

Most of the negative reports on the "Highway" seem to be related to DAB coverage issues, which can't really be blamed on the "Highway". Unfortunately significant areas and some major roads in the UK still do not have DAB coverage at the time of writing. A useful website for "Highway" users giving coverage maps (although the map detail isn't too fantastic) is http://frequencyfinder.org.uk/digital.html (usual disclaimers). However read carefully the planned on-air dates for the multiplexes as some are not yet operational.

Now if you're a Techie and want to improve reception read on:

I brought the "Highway" so I could listen to a particular station during my daily commute to and from work. The supplied adhesive screen mounted antenna works in areas with good signal coverage. However my journey is through a rural area and is on the edge of one of the signal contours. To compound matters, the route also take me along a river valley which is screened on either side by hills and with the supplied antenna I was getting some fairly bad and prolonged signal drop-outs.

So in an attempt to improve matters, I tried an old quarter-wave Band 3 Trunked-Radio mag-mount antenna placed on the middle of the car roof. WOW - the difference is phenomenal - no drop-outs whatsoever - solid signal for the whole of my journey - and I haven't even trimmed the antenna for the DAB frequencies.

The mag-mount approach may not be to many people's liking but if you want to listen to DAB in the car and if you travel in an area with mediocre reception an external antenna really does significantly improve reception.
