5 out of 5 stars Impossibly small, Impossibly good   September 18, 2005

The iPod nano is amazing you have probably heard this a thousand times but until u hold a nano you don't understand how small its is. Its really small.

I sold my 4GB iPod mini for this at it was worth it. Comparing it to the mini its a 1/3 of its side this is mostly the depth of it. the click wheel is smaller and is different its still great to use, not saying it is better or worse just different. Then you got a colour screen, its an amazing colour screen shows a lot of information with out being cluttered and makes the album artwork look good as-well.

You can also use it to view your photos the images load instantaneously making it a pleasure to use this is probably mainly down to it being flash based. As it is Flash its perfect for exercise as it will not skip and obviously its very light but also includes a stop watch with a lap function to time your exercise.

And probably the most important factor is how does it sound and the awnser is better than the mini and better than any thing ive heard music is really clear and has lots of depth. Beware though the 1000 songs is quoted for 4min tracks at 128kb/s and as i encode at 192kb/s vbr I was only able to fit around 700 tracks. The thing about this iPod is you can literally put it any where you can take it out with you even when your not planning to listen to music its that small and for this reason I give it 5 Stars

Buy one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ipod nano is stunning weighing only 42 grams, pencil thin and holding around 1 thousand songs. The nano has a 1.5 inch colour display ideal for viewing the photos that it can hold or just the cover artwork for the song your currently playing. Unlike it's bigger brother's the ipod nano's are completly skip free because instead of using a hard drive it uses flash memory therefore no moving parts. Apple quote the nano as having a 14 hour battery life of which you can get 80% capacity out of it with a 1 hour fast charge. The ipod comes with 4 games already built in for those boring times on the bus and the nano is pc and mac compatible. Inside the box you will get a usb lead, a dock adaptor and your earbud headphones. Unfourtanatly like the ipod mini and the shuffle before it you dont get the usb power adaptor with the nano. Therefore when you buy it the only way of charging it is through usb2 on your computer. if you dont have usb 2 or want to charge through a plug, a usb power adaptor will set you back 19 pounds. Team the nano up with the lanyard headphones or the nano dock and youll never look back. overall the only things as always with apple ipods i can criticise is the lack of fm radio and lack of charger, so if you can over look these faults go for the nano.

I've fancied an iPod for ages, but the big ones were too big, the mini not available in white, the Shuffle too limited. I knew I had to have a nano the moment I saw it, and two days after launch I was carefully unpicking the typically gorgeous packaging it comes in. It may be expensive, but at least it feels it. It's like unpacking a piece of high class jewellery.
The first thing that struck me was how heavy it was, like a little ingot. But it's only because it's so small. It's so small it's hard to believe it really works. But boy, does it work!
The software installed in seconds on my iMac. Moments later I'd plugged the nano in and started dragging albums onto it. I have more than 4GB of music in iTunes already, so took the manual option. It can sync automatically with iTunes of course.
Each album takes about seven seconds to transfer to the nano via USB2. It's incredibly easy and quick.
You can ogle the little machine while it's charging. It really is beautiful to look at and touch, and feels 'premium' from top to toe. The little colour screen is a beauty too - dead sharp and colourful. Shows album art if you choose to import it. Also shows the time, if you want. Lots of options.
In use it is about as slick as it gets. The famous click wheel is fine at this size, and the action of the touch wheel totally intuitive. In 30 seconds I was totally familiar with this, my first ever iPod.
Everything happens speedily: songs start almost the instant you select them, menus etc. are slick, slick, slick.
Oh and it sounds just great. Hard to see how such a powerful, spacious, delicate sound can be coming from this miniature object, I keep thinking. Doesn't seem right somehow.
Lots of extras in case you get bored with the music. The nano synced perfectly with my contacts and calendar, which is handy. World clocks are fun. Four iPod games, just like in its big brother. You can play music and games at the same time.
I could go on and on. So far, it seems to be near perfect as a product. To get a brand new product two days after release and use it to the full in a couple of hours is amazing. I can't find any chinks in its armour, except that I would've preferred the headphone socket to be on the left perhaps... I'm nitpicking. That's all you can do. Don't moan about the lack of radio or voice recording. It doesn't have those.
Everything else, it has. This feels like a landmark product.

I bought this two weeks ago and think this is an amazing bit of kit. I've burned approx 50 of my favourite CDs via iTunes and still have 1.5 gig of memory left for future tracks. Even when the Nano reaches capacity it is easy to re-categorise what you actually want to dowload to the iPod using the excellent iTunes software, so you can keep updating it with fresh tracks as your collection and preferences change.
It's not ideal for listening to mix CDs as it puts a small pause between tracks, and it's true to say that the battery life is approx 8 hours from charge to flat, which is not really good enough. I'd heard that they scratch easily, so I bought a case (the silicon ones are best) which solved that problem, and I have loved using the Nano ever since.
The Nano is well made and designed - it's a style icon without doubt and has reacquainted me with music I forgot I had. There are cheaper MP3 players for sure but if you've got a few quid to spend on the nano, a case and an AC adapter (all essential) then you must buy this! Believe me.

5 out of 5 stars Very cool item. Holds all the music you'll need and its tiny   January 5, 2006

Got my 4 gb ipod nano for xmas (in white as everyone seems to have them in black now???)and it is part of my very being. I had two days of immense fun downloading music and now get to listen to all the music i love without any of the dud tracks off my albums. The only criticism i have is that it seems a little too complicated and expensive to find a decent in-car system to support it. Maybe this is on the way?
This was no let down from the hype
